Buckinghamshire Council are looking to recruit a Waste Projects Officer to support our objectives to deliver high levels of participation, engagement and customer satisfaction within waste and street cleansing services.

The role is a full time, fixed term maternity cover.

About Us

On 01 November 2018, it was announced by the government that the five councils in Buckinghamshire will become a single unitary authority in April 2020.  Any changes made to the structure of local authorities in the county may affect council employees in the future.  Therefore, the five councils have agreed to restrict applications to this position to current employees of the five councils for a period of 14 days from 13 March to 27 March 2020. External candidates are welcome to submit their application at any point; however, if a current employee applies during this 14 day period, their application will be assessed prior to the council considering applications from external candidates.

Your role will be predominately based in Amersham, working within a friendly and professional team, whom are responsible for managing waste and street cleansing services for the Chiltern, South Bucks and Wycombe areas of Buckinghamshire.

You will be working within a busy and dynamic environment, reflecting the essential work we do to make Buckinghamshire a place where our residents enjoy working, living and visiting.

About the role

As a key member of the Waste Team, your role will be to develop, deliver and monitor a wide-reaching programme of projects. These include projects to increase participation in recycling; delivering education; and awareness campaigns and supporting of operational services.

You will have the opportunity to be involved in an exciting period for the team. Over this fixed term period, you will assist in the mobilisation of a new waste and street cleansing contract across the Chiltern, South Bucks and Wycombe areas of Buckinghamshire.

You will be responsible for providing effective customer communications and will be given opportunities to develop creative and engaging communications campaigns.

You will also lead on public engagement to communicate the principles of the waste hierarchy and litter prevention. Public engagement will involve presentations to community groups, schools and other interested parties.

Key Accountabilities

  • To ensure high level levels of participation, engagement and customer satisfaction within waste services
  • To deliver waste projects to drive improvements, increase efficiency and reduce costs within waste services, and to improve the customer experience
  • To lead on communications and public engagement to improve the quality of recyclables collected and increase recycling rates.

About you

You will need to be a natural communicator and have demonstrable experience in developing and providing communications to a variety of audiences.  Having experience in developing, delivering and evaluating your own projects would be an advantage.You will need to have the confidence to stand up in front of a range of different audiences and deliver engaging presentations and talks.

With such a varied role, prioritisation and multi-tasking skills are desirable to deliver excellent work on time and to the required standards.

You will need to be a good team worker, as you will be required to work closely another Waste Projects Officer and will be reporting directly to the Waste Policy and Projects Team Leader.

You will be educated to a degree level or have equivalent experience. An understanding of the waste industry or experience in an educational or communications-based role would be an advantage, but is not essential.

A full UK driving license and access to your own transport is essential for the role.
