Senior Strategic Planning Policy Officer
We are investing in our Strategic Planning and Infrastructure Service and recruiting to a Senior Strategic Planning Policy Officers to take lead on strategic spatial planning and development across the county to influence the delivery of infrastructure to support the housing and economic growth.

On 01 November 2018, it was announced by the government that the five councils in Buckinghamshire will become a single unitary authority in April 2020. Any changes made to the structure of local authorities in the county may affect council employees in the future. Therefore, the five councils have agreed to restrict applications to this position to current employees of the five councils for a period of 14 days from 21st November to the 5th December. External candidates are welcome to submit their application at any point; however, if a current employee applies during this 14 day period, their application will be assessed prior to the council considering applications from external candidates.

Expect to be involved in a range of national as well as sub-national infrastructure projects and to provide professional advice and support to diverse internal and external customers – all with an emphasis on strategic planning, neighbourhood planning, minerals and waste policy. You will gain a considerable amount of experience working with the districts on their local plans, responding to consultations and significant planning applications.
Supporting the Strategic Planning and Infrastructure Manager and Head of Strategic Planning and Infrastructure in the development and delivery of County wide strategic planning policy and infrastructure strategy, including the Buckinghamshire Minerals and Waste Local Plan, you will provide strategic planning advice and intelligence to decision makers, including elected members, both within the Growth & Strategy service, across the Transport, Economy and Environment Directorate and across other County Council business units.

For the Senior Officer position, you will be educated to degree level or equivalent in planning, you’ll have extensive knowledge of the English planning system, together with experience of strategic planning and wider policy making. Excellent organisational and time management skills, along with keen attention to detail are essential.
You will have good inter-personal skills and be able to build working relationships with councillors, other professionals and the wider public, you will also need good written and spoken communication skills, and a commitment to customer care.
