We have a number of current and pipelined projects underway and we are looking for talented, experienced project managers and team leaders to deliver our programme of works and to drive forward these key projects.
On 01 November 2018, it was announced by the government that the five councils in Buckinghamshire will become a single unitary authority in April 2020. Any changes made to the structure of local authorities in the county may affect council employees in the future. Therefore, the five councils have agreed to restrict applications to this position to current employees of the five councils for a period of 14 days from 31st October - 14th November. External candidates are welcome to submit their application at any point; however, if a current employee applies during this 14 day period, their application will be assessed prior to the council considering applications from external candidates.
Transport, Economy, & Environment at Buckinghamshire County Council responds to the public’s needs through its innovative delivery of transportation, economic growth and environmental services for Buckinghamshire.
Regeneration and Infrastructure is one of 5 delivery units within Transport, Economy, Environment. Its focus is on major project development and delivery to support economic growth through new roads and rail projects, town centre regeneration schemes and environmental enhancement projects.
The R&I directorate is unique within the County Council by taking a consultancy led, project funded approach to its business. We work closely with key stakeholders on national infrastructure projects (HS2 and East West Rail) and complex developments such as Aylesbury Woodlands, High Wycombe Town Centre regeneration, Link Roads in Aylesbury and Beaconsfield as well as innovative corporate schemes to drive savings through effective design.

Buckinghamshire County Council has exciting opportunities to work on regeneration and infrastructure projects as the economy and population of Buckinghamshire grows.
We’re recruiting for Team Leaders and Project Mangers to work within our Highways Infrastructure Project team. The Highways Infrastructure Projects team are delivering a range of highway improvements from sustainable travel projects, junction improvements , multiple new link roads to town centre regeneration and have a significantly expanding order book. The projects are funded from a variety of sources including BCC, District Council, Developer funding, BTVLEP and HS2.
The projects we deliver are challenging, complex, interesting and provide real benefit to Buckinghamshire residents.

Working closely with the Head of Highways Infrastructure Projects, your role will be to programme manage a range of projects and line manage a team of project managers to deliver projects efficiently and effectively. You’ll also act as the ‘customer account manager’, receiving initial contact from clients regarding new projects and acting as a point of escalation. You’ll ensure that projects are delivered on time and to budget, which will require you to lead on the production and delivery of project documentation, monitor budgets, prioritise resources, as well as establishing Programme and Project boards with clearly set governance and accountability throughout the project structure.

You’ll come to us with substantial experience of managing commercial or public sector capital projects, as well as leading and directing multi-disciplined project teams and groups working on major projects across a range of diverse professional disciplines, Council directorates and stakeholders. With excellent interpersonal and communication skills, you’ll be experienced in partnership working, which will enable you to develop relationships with key clients and partners in delivering our programme of work. With demonstrable experience in financial and contract management, you’ll also have the ability to support the preparation of tenders and contracts.
Highly organised and IT-literate, you are an experienced project management professional. You can co-ordinate partners, contribute to (and ideally manage) virtual teams and work with stakeholders, drawing on your strong communication skills. Well versed in standard MS Office and MS Project software, you are also a capable financial manager, ensuring your projects don’t go over budget or deadline.
Experience of construction projects and commissioning of consultants along with knowledge of Prince 2 methodology is desirable, and you will have a determined, can-do approach, committed to success.
Educated to degree level or equivalent, a recognised formal project management qualification would be highly desirable for these roles.
Where our roles are customer-facing and you are required to speak to members of the public, the ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the role.
There will often be a need to travel to sites and meetings at various locations so access to a vehicle is essential.
