The opportunity

Children’s social care has already started on a substantial improvement programme. Since a negative Ofsted inspection outcome after inspection in November 2017 a new, permanent senior management team has been recruited. The number one priority of this new team is to improve the quality of statutory children’s services and the outcomes for vulnerable children in Buckinghamshire. A high support and high expectation culture is being driven forward with enthusiasm, expertise and pace. Significant engagement with all tiers of the service is underway and now is an exciting time to join the service and be part of our journey to good and beyond.

About us

Services to our looked after children and care leavers are provided by the same team. This is an effective way to ensure strong and effective care planning into adulthood. Caseloads are manageable and the teams are led by well-established and knowledgeable leaders. Significant proactive work is underway to ensure there are sufficient placements local to the area and that our children are supported well by partners and our children in care council.

The team complete a variety of assessments, care plans and Court work and undertakes all aspects associated with the looked after children’s process.  The Children in Care Service works in collaboration with the Help and Protection Team to ensure that permanency can be achieved at the earliest opportunity.  The Children in Care service also works closely with Aftercare to ensure that young people have a smooth transition to adulthood with the appropriate support service identified at the earlier opportunity.

About the role

The role in our CIC team is diverse in nature in respect of supporting adoption, children in care and unaccompanied asylum seekers.

It is a busy and supportive team where you would be required to be part of a duty system, contribute in team meetings and monthly supervision.

In our High Wycombe office we have a strong cohesive team and many of our team members all have strengths in different areas which complement the team dynamics.

We are striving to make improvements to achieve better outcomes for the children and young people in Buckinghamshire that we are responsible for.

There is also a great supportive structure of line management and we actively encourage peer reflective opportunities.
