Strategic Energy Advisor
Transport, Economy and Environment are looking for a Strategic Energy Adviser to help shape the Council’s response to key energy issues.
About the role
We’re looking for a Strategic Energy Advisor to take a leading role in developing and delivering the Council’s work in addressing new and emerging energy issues. With the ability to help set the agenda for the coming years, this role will be at the cutting edge of how local authorities are responding to an evolving energy landscape.
The successful candidate will be involved in a broad range of work areas such as researching strategic energy issue and helping deliver the Council’s response, particularly around the implications for growth. They will also take a lead in identifying and developing income and savings opportunities from energy projects such as renewable generation, demand side response (DSR), heat networks or energy storage. Please note however that energy efficiency projects are not the focus of this role.
As energy policy continues to respond to technological and political drivers, this role will evolve and respond to the new challenges and opportunities which the energy sector creates.
Interviews will be held on 5th and 6th June.
Familiar with the changing nature of the energy sector, you will be able to take a broad view of the challenges and opportunities this provides local authorities, including how these can be of commercial benefit. Your excellent research skills will be complimented by your ability to evaluate complex situations and make sound recommendations. You will have well developed stakeholder engagement skills and be comfortable discussing potentially contentious issues with a diverse range of groups and individuals, both within and outside the Council.
Where our roles are customer-facing and you are required to speak to members of the public, the ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the role.
