About the role

To undertake the role of Best Interests Assessor and complete best interests and all supporting assessments within statutory timescales.

To identify if the action being proposed is a deprivation of liberty and to decide if it is in a person’s best interests for them to be deprived of their liberty, submitting their report to the Supervisory Body.

To ensure that appropriate contact and communication is maintained with the person, their carers and families at all times.

To make recommendations about the appointment of personal representatives in line with the regulations.

To undertake reviews of deprivation of liberty authorisations.

To investigate allegations that a person may be deprived of their liberty without lawful authorisation.

To maintain all necessary records and documentation in line with appropriate Supervisory Body procedures and use computerised information systems where possible.

To assist with the production of standards of practice and training and development activities.

To undertake training relevant to the post.

To take part in working groups, sub-groups etc, both within and outside the services.

To assist with the production of quality standards and performance measures and to ensure that they are adhered to.

To undertake such other appropriate responsibilities as may be delegated from time to time by the Joint Mental Capacity Act Co-ordinator.

To be aware of the aims, organisational values and behaviours of Buckinghamshire County Council their impact on this post.

To participate in any required performance management.

To carry out the duties of the post in accordance with the diversity policies of Buckinghamshire County Council.

To carry out all duties and responsibilities with reasonable care for the health and safety of you and any other persons who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work and to co-operate fully with both authorities in health and safety matters.

About you

At least two years experience within own professional discipline Services (as required by regulation)

Knowledge of Mental Capacity Act 2005 and its Code of Practice .

Knowledge of DoLS Amendment and Supplementary Code of Practice and Knowledge of Mental Health Act 2007 and its Code of Practice.

Significant experience in undertaking complex needs assessments and mental capacity assessments.

Knowledge of ways of communicating with people who may have disabilities.

Knowledge of practical methods of ensuring safe care for vulnerable people.

Knowledge of Policies and procedures for safeguarding vulnerable adults.

Clear understanding of the issues relating to anti-discriminatory and anti-racist practice.

An ability to communicate effectively with a range of other professionals.

An ability to record accurately and produce reports at short notice.

Effective workload management and good interpersonal skills.
