Best Interests Assessor
Buckinghamshire County Council is currently looking for Best Interest Assessors who have experience in completing assessments under the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards 2009.
We work closely with individuals and their families to ensure their rights are protected under the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards 2009.
About the role
As a Best Interest Assessor you will play a key role in the assessment process and will be required to respond to requests for authorisation of deprivation of liberty’ including, specifically best interests assessments.
•To undertake the role of Best Interests Assessor and complete best interests and all supporting assessments within statutory timescales.
•To identify if the action being proposed is a deprivation of liberty and to decide if it is in a person’s best interests for them to be deprived of their liberty, submitting your report to the appropriate Supervisory Body BCC or BPCT
•Whilst carrying out this assessment to ensure appropriate contact and communication is made with the person, their carers, families and all other professionals.
•To make recommendations about the appointment of a relevant person’s representative in line with the legislation.
•To undertake reviews of deprivation of liberty authorisations.
You will be offered regular peer and individual supervision, as well as the chance to work within a supportive team.
To apply for this role you must a have an Accredited Best Interest Assessor qualification and be qualified in one of the following professional groups:
•Approved mental health professional
•Social worker registered with the General Social Care Council
•First level nurse, registered in Sub-Part 1 of the Nurses’ Part of the Register maintained under article 5 of the Nursing and Midwifery Order 2001
•Occupational therapist registered in Part 6 of the register maintained under article 5 of the Health Professions Order 2001
•Chartered psychologist who is listed in the British Psychological Society’s Register of Chartered Psychologists
